Peter Baumeister studied law and political science at Mannheim University. During his legal traineeship in Mannheim and Karlsruhe he was awarded a doctorate for his thesis on an aspect of constitutional law. Until his Habilitation he was a research assistant at the chair for public law, in particular administrative law and administrative procedural law, at Mannheim University (Prof. Dr W.-R. Schenke). In 2003 his Habilitation thesis, which he wrote on an administrative law topic, earned him the right to lecture at Mannheim University in public, social and European law. In 2005 he was awarded the title "adjunct professor" (außerplanmäßiger Professor). He is currently working in these fields at the private University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg (SRH Hochschule Heidelberg) on the business law and social work courses.

He is admitted to practise in Germany and has been with Schlatter since 2007.

Peter Baumeister is a member of the German Association of Teachers in Constitutional Law (Vereinigung der Deutschen Staatsrechtslehrer), the Association of Teachers in Social Law (Verband der Sozialrechtslehrer) and the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (Deutscher Hochschulverband). He is also involved in the working party for criminal procedural law and police law at the eponymous institute at Mannheim University. He lectures on all subjects for which he is qualified to teach. He has also written legal opinions on subjects including, in particular, constitutional law, health and business administration law.
