After his studies and legal traineeship in Heidelberg Hanns-Uwe Richter worked at the Institute for Finance and Tax Law at Heidelberg University as a research assistant and took his doctorate under Reinhard Mußgnug. He joined the firm in 1996 after working as in-house lawyer for large industrial enterprises in Frankfurt and Heidelberg.

As specialist lawyer in employment-related matters Hanns-Uwe Richter advises and represents employers on all aspects of employment law including the law governing labour and managing relations ("codetermination"). He attends negotiations on reconciliations of interest and social plans on behalf of the employer, represents clients in employment litigation and on conciliation boards. He provides legal guidance to companies on restructuring, reorganisation and terminating contracts with directors and management executives. Hanns-Uwe Richter also advises and represents board members, directors and management executives on service contracts from their initial drafting through to the end of the service relationship.

His second field of expertise is trade mark law.

Hanns-Uwe Richter lectures at Heidelberg University, the SRH Hochschule Heidelberg and the Baden Academy of Administration and Economics. He is chairman of the Academy for Scientific Further Training at the Heidelberg Teacher Training College (Akademie für wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg e. V.) and co-authored the Dörring/Kutzki commentary on the public service collective bargaining agreement.

Hanns-Uwe Richter is a member of the employment law working party of the German Bar Association (Deutscher Anwaltsverein), the employment law discussion forum of Heidelberg lawyers and judges and the German-American Lawyers' Association.
