After his studies in Munich and legal traineeship in Mannheim Günter Heym did his doctorate under the supervision of Eugen Ulmer in Heidelberg on unfair competition. He joined the firm in 1956 and retired from day-to-day practice in 1997.
Günter Heym looks back on a long career in which he has sat on many supervisory and advisory boards.
He was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit (Großes Bundesverdienstkreuz) and the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit (Verdienstmedaille) for his services as president of the Baden-Württemberg lawyers' tribunal (Anwaltsgerichtshof) and chairman of the working party of the presidents of the lawyers' tribunals of the Federal Republic of Germany.
From 1994 to 1998 Günter Heym was the founding president of the association for promoting the preparation of law students at Heidelberg University for their careers as lawyers (Verein zur Förderung der anwaltsorientierten Juristenausbildung an der Universität Heidelberg e.V.).
